Lost n' Found

I have an obsessive behavior when it comes to finding a song I heard and wanting to hear it again.
In '83 Hamburg Germany I discovered the Cherry Red Label; listening to The Passage's 'Enflame' constantly, Eyeless in Gaza...
Upon returning to the States I heard on KCRW radio, a song I thought of Robert Wyatt, 'Ultramarine'- Taking me back to those Canterbury days of Caravan and Soft Machine in the early years.

Last night I rediscovered it. Yes, by 'cybernetspacesurfin'blindn'bychance'- a collaboration of Robert Wyatt with Ben Watt on good ol' Cherry Red Records.

Knowing they played the UFO club along with Pink Floyd and Soft Machine in London '66, I hear their influence on France's Gong and Germany's Amon Duul.

More amore

It was always best to my ear, when Italian groups of the seventies sang in Italian... or not at all.

So nice to see n' hear Arti e Mestieri and other Italian groups still active-

JAPAN and the Farther Away I am (Minus 30 Degrees)

In Catford, South London, a group of friends started playing music together 40 years back,
David Sylvian, his Brother Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri and Mick Karn.
'Oil on Canvas,' an '82 live recording of Japan reunited and touring with Masami Tsuchiya from Japan.

The group's individual efforts and collaborations with musicians from Japan (The Isle) are welcoming to my ear always...
Mick Karn on fretless bass with Yoshihiro Hanno,

Drummer Steve Jansen and Keyboardist Richard Barbieri mix in Nobukazu Takemura,

David Sylvian, Japan singer's collaborations with  Ryuichi Sakamoto, Robert Fripp,
Holger Czukay ... Flux can be beautifully mixed with On the Way to the Peak of Normal.

Lately listening to 'Wandermude' (that's mude mit ein umlaut),
Tired of wandering, travel tired, jet laggen'd...

                                                                          ...Brilliant space traveling.

Sylvian's music, Stephan Mathieu's farfisa, twin reverb and mixing-
                                                                        minimal and spacious.

Tales of Brave Ulysses

In my younger, penniless days, I'd request records as gifts when asked by relatives what I wanted for my 'Chris'amissa'Bird'day'.

My Godmother, 'Aunt Jean d' Napoli got me 'Fresh Cream' n' 'Disraeli Gears' when I turned 13.
This band could jam. Their combined talent created A'sound.
Jack Bruce's singing took me away.
From Blues to tiny Purple fishes, lyrics of Pete Brown and Skip James were memorized.
Later learning every guitar note n' bend of 'slow-hand' Clapton,
then fortunate to meet Keith Heins at Thousand Oaks High School, a drummer inspired by Cream's
jazz'-Afro'red drumming of Ginger Baker...
We started jammin'-
'Phil Sodequist Blues Band'
'Dale Poune Cake walks with Wally'
'Cast of a Thousand Tiki Beats'
'Jiggle the Handle'...

Jack Bruce's solo work, 'Harmony Row' takes me back to waltzing Tania at two 'round the livingroom in the afternoon.

Ten pieces of sun for you
And for you only two
Take care not to grow so fast
You're into the past
In time you will lose them all
Sooner if you fall
In markets that offer stars
No care for the stars

Now/when the time is so ripe
Then/in the twinkling of an eye
Gone/in the drains of a world
Victoria Sage wears out rage

Ten fallings in love for you
And for you only two
Take care not to love too much
You might like the touch
Spring beckons you leave it all
Now you have grown tall
Gold pavements on different stars
Watch out for the cars

Soundscapes

The soundtracks of Wim Wenders' films have always inspired.
Music from this sphere's best landscapes; 'Paris, Texas' desert music from Ry Cooder to Berlin's 'Wings of Desire' nightclubbing with Nick Cave.

'Pina' is a beautiful movie documentary of Dance.
